Feature CD release by Toronto's DUB ambassadors - Boogiewall Soundsystem sets the tone with Super My Own Band. This gem is quickly climbing the charts - many moments of Reggae inspired studio magic, a spirited release indeed.
Genre-bending ... Fans of the Mad Professor's dub mix of Massive Attack's Protection album should be especially interested in this project. While Boogiewall Soundsystem are much more rooted in reggae rhythms than in Massive Attack, the collision of musical influences is common ground. NOW MAGAZINE

Ska meets dub meets electronica topped off with lively pop vocals is the best way to describe Boogiewall Soundsystem's Super My Own Band - a uniquely fresh, vocally strong release with richly textured accompanying rhythms. Super My Own Band captures that old school rub-a-dub style reggae vibe but at the same time is lyrically current and stylistically strong in its production. From the first track onward you'll be lost in this musical collective - a smorgasbord if you will of various eclectic sounds all fused into one. True to the last note dub fans will appreciate the authenticity Boogiewall Soundsystem is trying to bring to this genre of music. EXCLAIM MAGAZINE
This work seems to be the sonic equivalent of an interdisciplinary academic program. Cross-pollination between a number of sounds has occurred, resulting in esoteric down tempo with a dub reggae sensibility. Genre bending - where overground pop influences meet electronic music head on. TRIBE MAGAZINE

From the vaults of timelessness - from a time before there was a Boogiewall Soundsystem - here is The Skanksters with their full length album Dub Cookery. Blessed are we that we get to re-release this gem on OHM GROWN Records - may you happily skank to these sweet sounds all night long.
Where most like-minded groups try too hard to prove just how dub they really are, the Skanksters let the rootsy vibe build naturally, keeping the reverb and echo to a tasteful minimum. Loping, horn-heavy pop tracks are spiked with samples, tabla and clunky Wurlitzer riffs, with vocalist Tanya Kornobis wise enough to hold back and integrate her voice with the surrounding grooves rather than simply wail over top, while a couple of genuine dub versions show off the Skanksters' mixing skills. NOW MAGAZINE (Toronto)
The spookiest thing about Canadians is that they are so hard to spot. Their amazing morphing powers allow them to move virtually undetected through our ranks--and many of their musicians can flawlessly imitate non-Canadian styles, from Afro-pop to blues and bluegrass. The Toronto-based Skanksters appear to be another example of this, doing to straight-ahead reggae (despite their name, this isn't really ska) what fellow Torontonian Snow did to dancehall reggae back in 1993. Dub Cookery, after all, is not blazing new territory. It's basically a pot of Steel Pulse-style compositions with a pinch of remix wizardry thrown in. The unusual part is how well the Skanksters reformulate the sound-in-the-pocket grooves, triplet bass lines, and ever-present saxophone backings - all this harnessed by the lead vocals of Tanya Kornobis, resulting in a great combination of haze and clarity. Dub Cookery is good listening. THE STRANGER (Seattle, WA)
Subtle yet heavy on the Dub spirit, imagine what Basement 5 and Beats International might have done in 1999. Dreamy female vocals and solid rhythms throughout. Internet rumours abound of upcoming white label dub plates and a companion remix/dub CD release, but this record rocks mostly because it etches out totally unique territory for itself in this world of samples and electronic dub music. What a concept, a real band! Can't wait for what's next. AMAZON . COM
In a city that has never lost faith in ska - from King Apparatus and the Hopping Penguins to Skaface and Spinecracker - why would one of the city's foremost ska bands choose to take a turn for the dubwise? Well, if the band is the Skanksters, making the move to pop-flavored dub is nothing more than a natural evolutionary process. The band's downsizing and shapeshifting also resulted in singer Tanya Kornobis becoming "the spearhead vocally and spiritually." Her mellow tones create the foundation of the band's full-length debut, Dub Cookery. The Skanksters' vibe-heavy tunes are sure to cause a whole lot of movement on the dancefloor. EYE MAGAZINE
Hailing from Toronto, The Skanksters fuse traditional ska, dub, and beautiful female vocals together to create an equally beautiful sound. Ranging from soft and delicate to rough and tumble, the band is able to shake things up while keeping their sound, well ... always sounding like The Skanksters' sound. Expanding your sound and testing new things is a good thing. You just need the female vocals, and from there you can begin to experiment. As is properly shown on "Only Once A Stranger," which puts the lead female vocals next to male vocals in duet style. Not bad ... not bad at all. Fairly up-tempo compared to the other numbers on this disc, it has no problem getting you dancing and feeling good. On the first listen you'll fall in love with the vocals, and subsequent other listens will find you more and more in-tune with the music. IN MUSIC WE TRUST . COM
